Over 2.7 Billion people face water shortages

Agriculture is responsible for an estimated 92% of global water depletion (Nature.org; accessed April 16, 2012). According to a study entitled: “Global Monthly Water Scarcity: Blue Water Footprints Versus Blue Water Availability,” an estimated 2.7 billion people face water scarcity one month each year. Water scarcity is not only a food security concern but also a potential catalyst for violent conflict (Unep.org; accessed April 16, 2012).
