Conflict in Mali has compromised the country’s ability to prevent devastating locust swarms from invading the Sahel region (Reuters.com; accessed November 8, 2012). The disruptive effect of armed conflicts and continuous disputes about the legitimacy of states in Sub Saharan Africa is a major contributor to food insecurity.
